Yes, you can control the order in which accounts appear inside a category such as operating expenses. ScaleXP orders a category by its groups and subgroups, so you arrange the accounts you want to reorder into groups, drag those groups into position on the Configure P&L, BS page, and the new order is used in your ScaleXP P&L and balance sheet reports.
How ordering works in ScaleXP
Each financial category (for example operating expenses) contains groups, each group can contain subgroups, and accounts sit inside a group or subgroup. Groups and subgroups can be dragged into any order within their category, and that is what sets the order of the accounts inside them. To position a single account exactly where you want it, place it in a group of its own and drag that group into place.
For the full picture of how categories, groups and subgroups are configured, see How to configure your P&L and balance sheet in ScaleXP (single company).
1. Open the configuration page
- Go to the Load Data tab.
- In the left sidebar, click Configure P&L, BS.
- From the dropdown at the top, select Profit and Loss or Balance Sheet.
- Click Expand all to see every account in each category.

2. Group the accounts you want to reorder
- Check the box to the left of the account or accounts that should sit together.
- Click Create Group at the top of the page.
- Enter a name for the group and save it.
To move an account into a group that already exists, check its box, click Move to, and select the category, group or subgroup it belongs in. To create a further level, select accounts already in a group and click Create Sub Group; see How to create a second level of subgroup in ScaleXP reporting for two-level subgroups.

3. Drag groups and subgroups into the order you want
- Find the six-dot handle immediately to the left of the group or subgroup name.
- Click and hold the handle, drag the group to its new position within the category, and release.
- Repeat for each group or subgroup until the category reads in the order you want.
Groups move within their category, and subgroups move within their group. To move a group into a different category, re-create it there by selecting the accounts, using Move to to place them in the new category, and creating the group again.

4. Check the result in your reports
Open a P&L or balance sheet report and confirm the accounts appear in the new order. To take an account back out of a group, use the ungroup account arrow next to the account on the Configure P&L, BS page. For a quick view of every account and its current grouping, see How to view all uploaded accounts and their groupings.
