How to create a new report from a template

Create a new report from your existing P&L, balance sheet, or cash flow template; set time periods, budget comparison, tracking codes, or a fixed start date.

This article shows you how to create a new report in seconds from your existing P&L, balance sheet, or cash flow setup, and how to set its time periods, budget comparison, tracking codes, or fixed start date as you create it.

The new report uses the most recently edited version of your existing P&L, balance sheet, or cash flow configuration, so it reflects your current categories and groupings.

Create a report from a template

  1. Go to Reports and click + New at the top of the sidebar, then New report.
  2. Under Starting with a template, choose P&L, Balance Sheet, or Cashflow. (To build a report from a blank page instead, choose Create my own report.)
  3. On the Time tab, set how many Months, Quarters, and Years to display, and pick a budget under Compare to if you want a budget comparison.
  4. To report from a fixed start date, such as the start of your financial year, use the Fixed Period tab. To report by tracking code or class, use the Tracking Codes tab.
  5. Click Additional config options if you need further settings.
  6. Type a name for the report in the title box at the top of the preview, then click Save.

The report is fully customizable afterwards: change time periods and budgets from the Columns dropdown, or click Edit to change rows and columns. In a consolidated company you can also report by entity - see How to report on specific entities in a consolidated company.

See the transactions behind a figure

Once your new report is ready, select any account row to see the transactions behind the balance. See How to see transaction detail behind account balances. For a full listing of every transaction across all P&L accounts for a month, quarter, year to date, or full year, choose Download Transaction Detail from the report’s download menu (see How to download a report to Excel).
