How to expand/hide rows in a report

Expand, collapse, or hide report rows; show groups, subgroups, or individual accounts by default; set the level of detail in a report.

This article shows you how to set how much detail a report row shows by default — collapsed, groups, subgroups, or every individual account — so each report opens at the level of detail you want.

Set the default level of detail for a row

  1. Go to Reports and open the report.
  2. Click Edit (top right), then Edit rows.
  3. Select the row you want to adjust. The row turns blue and shows its toolbar.
  4. Use the expansion dropdown (it shows Show Groups by default) to choose the default level of detail: Collapse, Show Groups, Show Subgroups, Show Subgroups Level 2, or Show Accounts.
  5. Click Save & Exit.

You can also add individual accounts, subgroups, or groups as rows in their own right. Each group and subgroup row offers the same expansion options. To expand every row on screen without changing the defaults, click Expand all at the top of the report.

See the transactions behind an account

Once a report is expanded to account level, you can go one step further: select any account row to see the individual transactions behind the balance for that period. See How to see transaction detail behind account balances.
