This guide shows you how to add new metrics, KPIs, or extra months to an existing budget or forecast by downloading the current budget as a template, updating it in Excel, and uploading it again, and how to set a budget against a specific customers tab report such as MRR or churn.
You can budget for any metric reported in ScaleXP, including manual entry fields, balance sheet items, and any metric in the metric library or on the customers page. To create a budget from scratch, see How to add a budget or forecast.
1. Add metrics or months to an existing budget
- Go to Load Data (top bar) > Budgets & Forecasts (left sidebar).
- Select the budget to update and click Update or reload (icon to the right of the budget).

- In 2. Download Template, check the boxes for every item to include. Keep the items from the previous budget checked as well as any new ones, and scroll to review the full list.
- Click Continue, confirm the budget parameters, and set a new start date or number of months if needed.
- Click Download Excel and add the new metrics or months to the template.
- Go to 3. Upload Template, click Select File, choose your file, and click Upload. A downloadable preview shows the budget with the new fields.
If the budget was imported from your accounting system, download it first and then upload it as a manual budget using the same steps. Always include the existing budget data in the upload, otherwise it is overwritten.
2. Set a budget against a customers tab report (MRR and churn)
- Follow the steps above and, when selecting items, check MRR, Customers & Churn under the customers tab report you want to budget against.
- In the downloaded Excel file, enter your budgeted churn in the Lost Customers and MRR Lost rows.

You can budget against as many customers tab reports as you like, including ARR, MRR, and accounting revenue views. Once uploaded, add the budget to any report on the Reports tab to compare against actuals. For more detail, see How to add a customers page report into your budget.
